Makeup Artist Leena Bhushan Breaks Silence on Viral Airport Video

Indiadailyupdate.com – Makeup artist Leena Bhushan breaks her silence after a video of her reprimanding a team member at an airport triggered criticism online. The Delhi-based artist said the clip showed her reacting to a serious baggage issue during a return journey from Kashmir, not a regular pattern of poor behaviour towards her staff.

The video, which was first posted on Bhushan’s Instagram account and later circulated widely on X, was viewed by nearly five million people. In it, she is heard scolding a team member named Mehak and saying, “Chodh jaun yahin pe tere ko?”—or, “Should I leave you here?”

Why the Video Drew Backlash

Many social-media users described the interaction as humiliating, particularly because Mehak was reportedly taking her first flight. Some commenters also raised concerns about the power imbalance between an employer and a junior team member, using words such as “classist” and “elitist” to criticise the exchange.

A caption shared alongside the repost suggested that Mehak had made an honest mistake and may not have felt able to respond because of job-security concerns. The video renewed debate about respectful workplace communication, especially when tense moments are recorded and shared publicly.

Bhushan said viewers saw only a brief part of an unusually stressful situation. According to her, airport security stopped the group on September 8 while they were flying back from Kashmir after a professional assignment.

Bhushan Cites Airport Security Concerns

Bhushan said a lighter was found in Mehak’s luggage and that battery-related items in hand baggage added to the scrutiny. She said the circumstances made her anxious because of aviation safety rules and the heightened security setting at Kashmir airport.

“Imagine having a lighter in my bag by my team, and we are at the Kashmir airport. How would you feel? I was 100% upset in that moment, but it does not mean that I mistreat them,” Bhushan said.

The makeup artist said her team had been instructed about restricted travel items before the trip. She referred to an earlier experience at the same airport, when she was detained and questioned after hair sprays were found among her belongings. After that, she said, the team was given guidance on prohibited items and how permitted products should be packed.

“Why would you put the entire plane in danger carrying a lighter in your bag? And the batteries… and that too in Kashmir,” she said.

For makeup professionals, travel checks can be especially important because kits may include electrical tools, aerosol products and batteries. Airline and airport rules can differ depending on the item and whether it is carried in cabin or checked baggage, so travellers are generally expected to check restrictions before flying.

Leena Bhushan Rejects Claims of Mistreatment

Makeup artist Leena Bhushan breaks from the criticism to say she was upset with Mehak in that particular moment but does not mistreat her team. Bhushan, who has more than nine lakh Instagram followers, said a viral clip cannot fully show what happened before or after it was recorded.

“I was upset with Mehak at that moment, but it does not mean that I treat her like that otherwise,” Bhushan said.

She also said she takes care of the women on her team during work travel. Bhushan stated that the Kashmir stay was extended by a day so they could explore the area, and that they stayed at the same lakeside hotel, with their rooms beside hers.

Bhushan added that the group visited a local store because team members had not brought Kashmiri clothing. She said she bought them clothes and cookies during the trip.
