Etawah DFO, driver killed in accident on Agra-Lko expressway
Forest Officer and Driver Die After Expressway Crash in Firozabad
Indiadailyupdate.com – Etawah divisional forest officer Vikas Nayak and his driver, Devansh, died after the SUV in which they were travelling was struck by another vehicle on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Tuesday. The collision occurred near the 69-kilometre marker in Firozabad district, within the Nagla Khangar police station area.
The crash involved two four-wheelers travelling in opposite directions on the expressway. Nayak’s SUV was heading towards Agra from Lucknow when the other vehicle crossed over from the opposite carriageway and collided with it.
Vehicle crossed the divider
Police information indicates that the second vehicle had been travelling from Haryana towards Lucknow. Its driver is believed to have dozed off, causing the vehicle to hit the median divider, cross into the opposite lane and ram the SUV carrying the Etawah forest officer.
The force of the collision left five people injured. Emergency information reached the 112 police service at 10.45am, following which police personnel went to the site and the injured were taken to the medical college at Saifai for treatment.
“The police, on reaching the spot, found the accident was caused because of a collision between two four-wheelers leaving five injured who were rushed to medical college at Saifai. Three of the injured were in critical condition,” stated Chanchal Tyagi, deputy superintendent of police for the Sirsaganj circle.
Three people were initially described as being in a critical condition. Two of them later died from their injuries: Nayak, who was serving as the divisional forest officer in Etawah, and Devansh, who was driving the vehicle.
“Two critically injured succumbed. One of them was identified as Vikas Nayak who was presently the DFO at Etawah and the other deceased was identified as his driver Devansh,” DSP Chanchal Tyagi said.
Woman remains critically injured
A 65-year-old woman was also travelling in the officer’s SUV at the time of the accident. She is the mother of an officer in the forest department and was reported to be critically injured after the crash.
The incident has drawn attention to the devastating consequences of a vehicle leaving its designated carriageway on a high-speed road. The Agra-Lucknow Expressway carries traffic moving in separate directions, with a divider intended to keep those flows apart. When a vehicle breaches that separation, motorists travelling lawfully in the other direction can face an immediate and unavoidable danger.
In this case, the collision took place during what should have been a routine journey from Lucknow towards Agra. The available details point to a sudden crossover by the other four-wheeler, leaving little indication that the occupants of Nayak’s SUV had any opportunity to avoid the impact.
Legal procedures underway
Police are carrying out the required legal formalities connected to the accident. The investigation will examine the circumstances that led the Haryana-bound vehicle to strike the divider and cross into the opposing lane.
Road crashes involving fatigue remain a serious concern, particularly on long expressway journeys where drivers may travel for extended periods at sustained speeds. The reported possibility that the driver dozed off underscores the importance of rest, alertness and timely breaks before fatigue affects control of a vehicle.
For other road users, the tragedy is also a reminder that safe driving depends not only on individual caution but on every vehicle remaining under control and within its proper lane. A lapse by one driver can rapidly put passengers and motorists in another carriageway at risk.
Nayak’s death is a loss for the forest department in Etawah, where he was serving as divisional forest officer. Devansh was travelling with him in the course of the journey and also lost his life in the collision. The critically injured woman continues to require medical care following the accident.
The deaths of the officer and his driver have left a journey on one of Uttar Pradesh’s major expressways marked by sudden loss. As legal compliance proceeds, the central facts remain stark: two vehicles travelling in opposite directions collided after one crossed the divider, and two occupants of the SUV did not survive their injuries.
