Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are experiencing relief from prolonged humid weather with the arrival of these showers. The weather agency has forecasted intermittent rainfall for the next two days, with isolated heavy downpours expected across northern states including Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Delhi-NCR through July 27. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds measuring 40-50 kmph are anticipated in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana.

Red Alert Zones and Casualty Reports

The southern states, along with Karnataka and the western ghat regions of Tamil Nadu, are expected to receive moderate rainfall between July 25 and July 27. A red alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, where the situation remains critical. According to government reports, 24 people lost their lives in the past two days due to landslides in Jammu & Kashmir, and six individuals remain missing. Rescue and relief operations are currently ongoing in the affected areas.

Rainfall is expected to exceed 204.5 mm in isolated locations over the two states. Wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are expected to continue until July 27.

The IMD has also issued a Red alert for several districts of Uttarakhand, while the rest of the state has been issued with an orange alert. Continuous rainfall in the state has triggered landslides and floods, which have led to blocked roads. Local administrations have advised residents to avoid rivers and streams due to the increased river level. Around 98 roads have been closed in the Himalayan region, disrupting connectivity, which has affected daily life across several towns, villages, and remote areas.

The authorities have temporarily suspended the Char Dham Yatra, Amarnath Yatra, Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, and pilgrimages to Shiv Khori in Reasi and Sarthal in Kishtwar, as a precautionary measure due to the increased risk of landslides along the pilgrimage routes. Heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm is expected across the northern parts of the country, including in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.

Heavy rainfall is also forecast for Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, Goa, Maharashtra, and the Konkan region. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
