Victory for Democracy: Wangchuk Celebrates Pradhan’s Resignation

Wangchuk, whose June 28 hunger strike emerged as a pivotal moment in galvanizing public support for the movement, was spotted at Medanta Hospital displaying the victory symbol following this major breakthrough for the protesting students.

The minister’s resignation letter, addressed directly to students, revealed the moral considerations behind his decision. “Considering the situation that has developed at Jantar Mantar and across the country—that anti-national forces should not take advantage of this situation, that the unity of the country should be preserved, that not even a single student’s future should get entangled in legal complications, and that our children should devote their time to studies and focus on building their careers—I have sent my resignation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister,” the letter stated clearly.
Beyond Wangchuk’s personal sacrifice, which resulted in him losing more than 10kg of body weight and prompted more than 65 MPs from various parties to urge him to end his fast, the protests revealed serious concerns about conduct during demonstrations. CJP protesters raised allegations of police brutality at Jantar Mantar, where many participants experienced lathi charges and exposure to tear gas.
