Mohandas. This legal action follows controversial statements made by the former BJP Intellectual Cell chief regarding students who participated in protests at Jantar Mantar. The booking encompasses multiple sections of Indian law, reflecting the seriousness with which authorities are treating these remarks.
Official documentation reveals that the FIR includes BNS Sections 192 and 353(1)(b), along with Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act. These provisions collectively address digital communications, social media posts, and video content that may incite public disturbance or contain offensive material. The comprehensive nature of the charges demonstrates how Mohandas’s comments have been classified under various legal categories.
Controversial Comments Emerge from YouTube Video
The controversy originated from a thirty-minute discussion featured on the Malayalam YouTube channel Pathrika. During this session, Mohandas presented his hypothetical approach to handling demonstrations organized by what he termed the Cockroach Janta Party. These student protesters had been demanding the resignation of former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with the NEET examination paper leak scandal that affected millions of aspirants across India.
According to video transcripts, Mohandas stated that he would have employed lethal force against demonstrators if he had been in a position of authority. He elaborated on his proposed strategy with considerable detail, outlining a systematic approach to crowd control:
“I would impose curfew in a four-square-kilometre area around Jantar Mantar. I would ask the crowd three times to disperse. Then I would shoot. Some will die, some will survive, some will be mutilated. The situation would be brought under control in four hours. The bodies would be collected and taken to the hospital.”
Furthermore, in a separate video recording, Mohandas made provocative statements concerning female participants in these demonstrations. He suggested that secular women involved in the protests “enjoy being gang-raped.” His comments included specific references to political affiliations:
“Gang-rapes will happen. In this case, there won’t be any complaints as these are people who like being raped. There are women who like being raped, especially Leftists, secular, democratic and proletarians. Now if someone dies during this, they will turn the person into a martyr.”
Political Response and Mohandas’s Defense
The videos generated substantial backlash across political organizations throughout India. Leaders from both the Student Federation of India and the All India Students Federation submitted formal complaints against Mohandas to appropriate authorities. Simultaneously, the Democratic Youth Federation of India organized a demonstration march toward his Kochi residence, demanding strict governmental action against his statements.
In response to the mounting criticism, Mohandas defended his position by characterizing his remarks as satirical in nature. He argued that his comments represented only a portion of an extended video and that the humor was diminished during translation from Malayalam to other languages. This explanation attempts to contextualize his statements within the broader framework of his communication style.
KB Sreekumar, serving as RSS South Kerala provincial secretary, clarified that Mohandas maintains no formal organizational connection with the RSS. Sreekumar emphasized that the organization found the comments highly objectionable and explicitly disagreed with Mohandas’s personal viewpoints, distancing the RSS from the controversy while acknowledging the severity of the situation.
