“I have been camping here for the past few hours, and the police is unable to divulge the whereabouts of more than 16 of my supporters who have been rounded up,” Kishor alleged with frustration.
According to the party candidate, the detained individuals had been held in custody for multiple hours before being transferred to an unknown location. The police reportedly failed to provide any concrete details about where the workers were being kept during this critical period. This lack of communication further intensified Kishor’s concerns about the welfare of his party members.
“If any harm comes to them (the party workers allegedly detained), Rituraj Kumar Singh, the SHO of Jakkanpur police station, will certainly lose his job. He should be well aware of that,” Kishor warned sternly.
Kishor subsequently suggested that the BJP was orchestrating the alleged detentions as a calculated strategy to influence the election outcome. He highlighted an important legal provision, noting that authorities can retain individuals in custody for up to 24 hours without presenting them before a magistrate. This mechanism, he argued, was being strategically exploited to keep his supporters confined until the polling process concluded completely.
“It (the BJP) knows it is going to lose the bypoll. The police can keep a person in custody for 24 hours without producing him before a magistrate. So a plan has been devised to keep some of my supporters in custody till the time voting is over,” he claimed.
The Bankipur constituency carries considerable historical weight for the BJP, having maintained continuous control since 1995 when it was known as Patna West. The party has fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, a prominent leader from its youth wing, as their candidate in this pivotal contest. According to Election Commission documentation, all 422 polling stations within the constituency are located in urban localities, making voter turnout patterns especially critical for both competing parties.
