Atul Londhe Patil Criticizes New Recruitment Ratio as Anti-Gen Z Move
Indiadailyupdate.com – On Thursday, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil leveled strong criticism against the BJP-led Mahayuti administration, accusing it of undermining the aspirations of the state’s younger generation. The congressman pointed to a government resolution dated July 20 as evidence of this alleged anti-Gen Z stance, claiming it has dashed the hopes of countless young candidates seeking government positions.
Patil highlighted that the controversial resolution fundamentally alters the established recruitment framework for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission. Previously, direct recruitment accounted for 66 percent of officer appointments, with promotions filling the remaining 33 percent. The new directive reverses this arrangement, allocating 60 percent of vacancies to promoted officers while reserving just 40 percent for fresh recruits through direct selection.
This unjust GR must be withdrawn immediately. Otherwise, Gen Z and the youth will once again take to the streets and force the government to retreat.
Speaking at a press gathering held at Tilak Bhavan, the Congress leader elaborated on the specific impacts of the policy change. For positions including Deputy Collector and Tehsildar, the majority of slots will now go to internally promoted staff rather than external candidates. The situation is even more pronounced for Naib Tehsildar roles, where only 20 percent of openings remain available for direct recruitment, with the remaining 80 percent earmarked for promotions.
Londhe Patil emphasized that this adjustment affects hundreds of thousands of families across Maharashtra who rely on merit-based government employment. He noted that the Revenue Department has already utilized the new framework to fill 160 positions through internal promotions. Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has defended the move, asserting it will enhance departmental efficiency. However, the Congress spokesperson raised doubts about this reasoning, asking whether the minister implies that directly recruited officers lack competence.
The scale of the issue becomes clearer when considering Pune alone, where approximately 3.2 million students dedicate themselves to MPSC examination preparation. According to Patil, the resolution represents more than a bureaucratic adjustment—it strikes at the heart of opportunities available to children from farming, labor, and working-class backgrounds. He characterized the matter as one transcending partisan politics and called upon officials to reconsider and retract the problematic resolution.
