Mohali Police Arrest Three in Tractor Theft Investigation

Indiadailyupdate.com – Mohali police have arrested three men in an investigation into the theft of tractors and agricultural equipment in the Kharar area, recovering four tractors, three trolleys, a digging machine and eight rolls of steel electrical wire.

The arrests are linked to complaints involving stolen farm machinery, a category of property that can be especially significant for agricultural households and contractors because such vehicles are central to routine fieldwork, transport and excavation-related activity. Investigators are continuing to question the suspects to determine whether they may be connected with additional theft cases and to verify ownership of the recovered items.

Accused identified

Police identified the arrested men as Shera; Himanshu Kumar, a resident of Ram Shergarh village in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district; and Sameer Ansari of New Seelampur in Delhi.

The case concerns tractor thefts registered within the jurisdiction of Sadar Kharar police station. DSP Kharar-1 Ishan Singla said the investigation remains active as officers examine the three men’s alleged involvement in other incidents of a similar nature.

Two tractor theft cases under investigation

One complaint involved a Mahindra 265 DI tractor bearing registration number UP-23-AU-2516. The tractor was stolen on July 29, and a case was registered at Sadar Kharar police station on August 5 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A second case concerned a red Mahindra Swaraj 744 tractor, registered as PB-27-M-7957. It was reported stolen during the night of September 7. Police registered the case on September 10 under the same provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The separate complaints gave investigators a basis to examine whether the thefts followed a connected pattern. Tractors and associated equipment can be difficult to replace quickly, making recovery efforts important not only for the owners but also for the continuity of agricultural and equipment-based work.

Arrests followed leads in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh

Police first apprehended Shera near Hanuman Mandir on Sahibajpur Road in Raikot, Ludhiana. His questioning led the investigation team to Himanshu Kumar, who was subsequently arrested in Meerut.

During questioning, Himanshu allegedly disclosed information about stolen tractors. Police said he guided officers to a location from which four tractors and three trolleys were recovered. The recovered vehicles are being examined as investigators work to connect them with theft complaints and establish their ownership.

Police later arrested Sameer Ansari after obtaining information during Himanshu’s interrogation. Officers recovered a digging machine and eight rolls of steel electrical wire from Sameer, adding further equipment to the property secured during the operation.

Focus on tracing recovered machinery

For investigators, recovery is only one part of the process. Police are also working to identify the origins of the tractors, trolleys, digging machine and wire, match them with pending complaints, and determine whether the equipment was moved across districts or states after it was allegedly stolen.

The questioning of the three accused is expected to focus on the alleged roles of each person, the route through which the machinery was transported, and whether other individuals may have been involved in storing, moving or attempting to dispose of the property.

Farm vehicles carry identifying details such as registration numbers, chassis information and model specifications. These details can help owners and police distinguish recovered machinery from similar-looking vehicles and support efforts to return property once its ownership is established through the investigation.

The two tractors named in the cases are both Mahindra models, but their registration numbers and descriptions are distinct: the Mahindra 265 DI is registered as UP-23-AU-2516, while the red Mahindra Swaraj 744 carries registration number PB-27-M-7957. Police will need to complete the verification process before drawing formal links between each recovered vehicle and a particular complaint.

Senior officers supervised operation

The operation was undertaken on the directions of Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma. SP Rural Jaspinder Singh and DSP Ishan Singla supervised the police action, while Sadar Kharar SHO Inspector Sunil Kumar oversaw the investigation.

The case highlights the importance of prompt reporting when agricultural vehicles or equipment go missing. Registration information, colour, model details and any identifiable alterations can assist police in circulating accurate alerts and assessing whether recovered property belongs to a complainant.

Police have not indicated that the investigation is complete. The three men remain under questioning as officers pursue leads related to other tractor thefts and seek to trace the full set of recovered articles. Further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the inquiry and the verification of the machinery recovered so far.
