‘Forged government documents to give birth’: Raipur father rapes 16-year-old daughter and sells newborn

Man in Raipur Arrested After Allegedly Raping Daughter Twice and Selling Newborn for ₹1.5 Lakh

Indiadailyupdate.com – Six individuals were taken into custody on Monday after a case was registered at New Rajendra Nagar police station in Raipur. Among those arrested are the father of a 16-year-old girl, his sister, a couple who purchased the infant, and staff members connected to two private hospitals. The complaint was filed under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), covering offences related to rape, the POCSO Act, human trafficking, and fraud.

How the Abuse Began

Police said the pattern of sexual assault started in 2023, after the minor’s mother divorced the father and departed, leaving all three of her daughters in his custody. The victim is the eldest of the siblings. She told investigators that the first assault took place at a relative’s house, where the man allegedly compelled her to drink alcohol. PTI reported that he threatened to kill her daughter should she speak to anyone about what had happened.

Two Pregnancies, One Miscarriage, One Sale

The girl said the abuse did not stop after the initial incident. She became pregnant, and when she confided in her paternal aunt about the condition, the aunt relayed the news to the father. He allegedly assaulted her once more, and the aunt assisted in procuring abortion pills. The teenager was forced to take the medication, which led to a miscarriage.

The assaults reportedly resumed afterward. By 2025, the minor was pregnant again. Her father allegedly brought her to the residence of a nurse identified as Varsha Mandal. Mandal, in turn, reportedly directed the girl to the home of another nurse, Geeta Rai, where the teenager remained for roughly two months.

Rai is said to have helped fabricate paperwork—including a counterfeit Aadhaar card—so that the teenager could be admitted to a private hospital in the Dangania area of Raipur. There, a surgical procedure was performed and a baby boy was delivered. The father, together with the doctor and others present, then sold the newborn to a separate couple for ₹1.5 lakh. The girl stayed at Rai’s residence for approximately 15 days following the birth before her father brought her back home.

Coming to Light

The cover-up ended when the minor reached out to her mother through social media and recounted the alleged abuse. The mother brought her to the police station, where the formal complaint was lodged, triggering the arrests and the multi-section FIR described above.
