Greater Noida man hospitalised after high-speed crash while collecting birthday cake

The collision occurred near Ek Murti Junction, and police have arrested a 24-year-old management student in connection with the case.
The injured man, Himanshu Rai, suffered fractures and other injuries after the impact. Police said he was taken to a nearby private hospital and is now out of danger, although he continues to receive treatment.
Crash took place before dawn
The incident happened at about 4.10am near Ek Murti Junction. Rai, who lives in Extension Villa in Sector 10 of Greater Noida, had gone there with his wife, Jyoti Mandal, after arranging for a birthday cake to be delivered to the junction.
The couple travelled to the location in their car because the cake delivery service was available only up to Ek Murti. Mandal stayed inside their vehicle while Rai crossed the road to collect the order. He was returning with the cake when the car allegedly hit him and left the area.
“We ordered a cake for my husband’s birthday. As the delivery was only available till Ek Murti, we reached the spot in our car. I was inside the vehicle while my husband crossed the road to collect the order. While returning, an unidentified car hit my husband and fled the scene without helping us.”
Mandal contacted the 112 police emergency helpline and helped take Rai to hospital. Her account forms part of the first information report registered in the case.
Victim describes a severe impact
Speaking from his hospital bed, Rai described the collision as sudden and forceful. He said the vehicle appeared to be travelling at an extremely high speed and did not stop after hitting him.
“The car hit me at what appeared to be a speed of over 100 km/h and drove away. The way the car was being driven, it appeared to me that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol.”
Rai said the date of the crash was also his birthday. He and his wife had gone out after work before travelling to Ek Murti Junction to collect the cake.
“It was my birthday on the 5th, so after work I went out with my wife.”
A video said to show the collision circulated widely on social media after the incident. The footage appears to show a car hitting a pedestrian at speed, while investigators said the force of the crash threw Rai some distance. The authenticity of the circulating video has not been independently established.
Suspect traced through electronic surveillance
Police said the accused, originally from Kanpur and living in Badalpur, was driving a Tata Punch when the collision took place. Investigators believe he was heading towards Sector 52 in Noida at the time.
He was identified and arrested on Wednesday with assistance from electronic surveillance. The case highlights the serious consequences of high-speed driving, particularly at junctions where pedestrians may be crossing roads even during quieter early-morning hours.

“A case under sections 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered, and further probe is underway,” said Ranjeet Kumar Singh, station house officer at Bisrakh police station.
The investigation will focus on the circumstances of the crash, the vehicle’s movement before and after the collision, and other available evidence. Authorities have not publicly detailed whether any additional charges may follow as the inquiry progresses.
For Rai and his family, the immediate concern remains his recovery from the injuries sustained in the impact. The incident has also drawn attention to the vulnerability of people crossing major roads near busy junctions, where even a brief trip to collect an order can become dangerous if motorists fail to maintain control and observe safe speeds.
