He was traveling to visit his elder brother Ali Ahmed, who is currently incarcerated, when the fatal incident occurred in Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh.

Details of the Fatal Accident

The crash took place near the Poonch police station area around 10:30 am on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway. According to SSP BBGTS Murthy, authorities received reports that an SUV had veered off course and collided with a road divider after the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle. The force of the impact was tremendous, leaving the front section of the car severely damaged.

Alongside Aban, three other passengers were transported to a nearby medical facility. Tragically, doctors pronounced Aban dead upon arrival. Subsequent police verification confirmed that two individuals perished in the collision.

One of the injured passengers informed us that the vehicle was traveling at a very high speed and became uncontrollable before crashing into the divider, Murthy stated during his press briefing.

Family Connections and Recent History

Aban was not only the youngest of Atiq Ahmad’s five sons but also the twin brother of Ahjam. Among the five brothers, both Umar and Ali remain detained in separate prisons across Uttar Pradesh. The family has endured numerous tragedies in recent years. Asad Ahmad, another son who was sought in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed during a police encounter near Jhansi in April 2023.

Umesh Pal held significance as a crucial witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, a case where Atiq Ahmad was also named as an accused. Meanwhile, Atiq Ahmad’s wife, Shaista Praveen, continues to be on the run according to law enforcement agencies.

The car was at high speed and lost control, said the injured passenger Mohammad Omar, a friend of Aban who was traveling in the SUV at the time of the accident.

The Death of Atiq Ahmad

The Ahmad family’s troubles intensified on April 15, 2023, when Atiq Ahmad, aged 60, and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range. Three assailants, disguised as journalists, carried out the execution while the brothers were being escorted by police to a medical college in Prayagraj for routine health examinations.

SSP Murthy confirmed that all standard protocols were being observed following the accident, with senior officers present at the scene to coordinate response efforts. The family has been duly notified of Aban’s passing.
