Lost faith in Safdarjung doctors’: Sonam Wangchuk’s wife seeks Delhi HC nod to shift him to private hospital
Activist’s spouse challenges hospital’s transparency and medical care

Angmo, the spouse of activist Sonam Wangchuk, has submitted a petition to the Delhi High Court requesting permission to move her husband to a private medical facility. The petition highlights her belief that Wangchuk has ‘lost trust’ in the care provided at Safdarjung Hospital, citing ongoing concerns about his health.
The application claims that hospital authorities have been withholding key medical data, offering only partial updates on Wangchuk’s condition. Angmo accused the institution of maintaining a ‘secretive and unclear’ approach to his treatment, which she argues has compromised his well-being.
“There was no urgent medical need or other valid reason for the sudden and forceful removal. The action taken by the police was neither necessary for his health nor justified under the law,” the petition stated.
Angmo also pointed out inconsistencies in Wangchuk’s potassium levels, as reported by Safdarjung Hospital versus an independent testing body. She argued that these discrepancies expose the hospital’s ‘dishonest behavior.’ Earlier this week, she posted on X, criticizing the hospital’s health report for ‘deliberately excluding’ the actual potassium readings.
Wangchuk, who had been fasting for 20 days, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday. His hunger strike, initiated on June 28 at Jantar Mantar, was part of the Cockroach Janta Party’s campaign against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, focusing on alleged irregularities in the NEET exam process.
