Student-Led Bihar Bandh Sparks Violence Across Multiple Districts
Patna witnessed renewed tensions as law enforcement officers executed a lathi charge against demonstrators gathered at Dakbungalow Square within the VIP zone. The student-organized bandh escalated into confrontations, prompting authorities to deploy tear gas canisters and position water cannons for crowd dispersal. Approximately 70,000 police personnel have been stationed across vulnerable districts throughout the state.
NEET Examination Rigging Protests Spread Widely
Student organizations and political entities united to protest alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. Participants called for transparent investigation procedures and stringent measures against those responsible for the paper leak. Road blockades materialized in Samastipur and Siwan, while morning traffic disruptions occurred near Thakur Prasad College in Madhepura.
Protesters originally intended to march toward the collectorate and present their demands through a memorandum to the district magistrate. Barricades were erected to block access, but demonstrators attempted to breach these barriers, triggering physical clashes. Reports indicate that arson incidents were also recorded during the unrest.
Violence Erupts in Eight Districts
Confrontations spread across Patna, Chhapra, Siwan, Gaya, Ara, Samastipur, Sharsa, and Nawada. In multiple areas, demonstrators hurled stones at police personnel, causing serious injuries to several officers. Siwan witnessed particularly intense action, with police allegedly discharging firearms and deploying tear gas to control the situation.
Meanwhile, substantial crowds assembled near CJP Golambar and Ramgulam Chok at Gandhi Maidan. Authorities detained approximately 17 individuals since morning, transporting them to the Sadar police station. Tej Pratap Yadav, president of the Janshakti Janata Dal and eldest son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, joined the demonstrations and was reportedly taken into custody.
Enhanced Security Deployment in Capital City
Security operations intensified across Patna with additional forces mobilized. In Thana Chowk, Chapra, tensions escalated following a clash between demonstrators and police, leading to reinforcement deployment. Patna University campus received heightened security attention, with SSB personnel establishing cordons around the area.
Beyond the Bihar Police, security arrangements included SSB units alongside fourteen paramilitary companies stationed throughout the city. Patrol routes covered Dakbungalow Square, JP Golambar, Kargil Chowk, Kotwali T-Point, Income Tax Square, Veerchand Patel Path, the High Court, Ashoka Rajpath, Rajvanshi Nagar Mor, Aashiyana, and the Chief Minister’s residence. Vajra vehicles and riot control teams occupied strategic positions citywide.
Additional incidents emerged in other districts. Protestors allegedly damaged multiple sites in Siwan. In Jehanabad, police fired at least thirty rounds after demonstrators reportedly assaulted the District Magistrate’s residence and threw stones. The demonstrations received backing from several opposition groups including the RJD, VIP, CPI (ML), and CPI (M).
