CJP Threatens Fresh Protest in Delhi as Tuesday Deadline Approaches

This development marks another critical moment in the ongoing negotiations between the party and federal authorities. Security forces across Delhi have been placed on high alert as the situation continues to evolve. The party’s leadership has made it clear that without a formal written pledge addressing their concerns, fresh protests will inevitably take place in Delhi’s central areas.
Law enforcement agencies have significantly increased their presence around key locations including Jantar Mantar and other strategic zones in New Delhi and Central Delhi. CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka voiced deep dissatisfaction with what he described as the government’s inconsistent approach to honoring previous commitments. He stressed that the party requires a documented, written assurance regarding their core demands before considering any pause in their agitation. The deadline of Tuesday has been set firmly, giving officials just a few days to respond adequately.
“We expect a written commitment on our demands by tomorrow, Tuesday. If all the protesters are not released and the FIRs are not withdrawn promptly, we will be compelled to organise another sit-in protest here in Delhi,” Ranka stated firmly.
Context Behind the Current Crisis
The present situation emerged shortly after the CJP brought its extensive 36-day campaign to a close on Saturday. This conclusion came following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan from his role as Union education minister, alongside the government’s acceptance of several remaining party demands. According to Ranka, preliminary discussions with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh on July 20 had already established a foundation for resolution. However, certain critical issues remained unresolved, prompting the party to maintain pressure through continued demonstrations.
The initial understanding reached during those talks included provisions preventing new FIRs from being filed against demonstrators and organizers involved in Delhi events or nationwide protests. Existing legal cases were also supposed to be withdrawn under this arrangement. Despite these provisions, the CJP spokesperson highlighted that students continue to face arrest, detention, and various legal charges across multiple states including Bengal, Bihar, Assam, and certain districts within Delhi. This ongoing issue has become a significant point of contention between the party and authorities.
During the third round of negotiations held on Saturday, both sides reached consensus on withdrawing all FIRs related to the Jantar Mantar gathering, the July 20 demonstration, and associated protests across the country. No fresh cases would be initiated against participants or coordinators involved in these events. The CJP prepared and submitted a written draft of the proposed agreement, expecting government representatives to present their counter-version by Tuesday. Legal teams from both sides will then review the documents thoroughly before finalizing the comprehensive arrangement.
“We expect that if a senior cabinet minister enters into an agreement on behalf of the government, it will be honoured,” Ranka affirmed, expressing confidence in the binding nature of such commitments.
Enhanced Security Measures in Place
Ranka warned that failure to obtain a written agreement or secure the release of detained individuals would compel the CJP to resume public demonstrations without further delay. Meanwhile, security preparations remain at an elevated level across New Delhi and Central Delhi due to the possibility of renewed agitation. A senior police official told PTI that adequate Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary units would remain stationed around Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations to maintain public order effectively.
“Force will be deployed to monitor the current situation and maintain law and order in and around the Jantar Mantar area. However, Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site and security always remains high there,” the officer clarified. Authorities are closely tracking all developments and have strengthened their security framework as a precautionary measure to prevent any unforeseen incidents. The situation remains fluid, with both the CJP and government officials preparing for various scenarios as the Tuesday deadline draws nearer.
