A woman trainee officer had submitted a complaint at the Attapur police station, which oversees the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy campus, on July 18. The formal FIR outlines accusations of sexual harassment, physical assault, criminal intimidation, and blackmail leveled by the complainant over the prior two months. While the details of the case are still under investigation, the police have not yet confirmed a direct link between Reddy’s suicide attempt and the academy’s disciplinary measures.
“The police will first gather the victim’s statement before proceeding with any further steps,” stated Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.
Suspension and Preliminary Findings
Following the submission of the complaint, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy suspended Reddy after its Privileges Committee conducted an initial review. The committee reportedly analyzed CCTV footage and other evidence to determine that the allegations merit disciplinary action. Despite the suspension, Reddy had expressed confidence in the legal process hours before the incident, claiming he believed justice would ultimately prevail.
Background and Career Path
Reddy had previously been recognized as a role model for his work as a constable in the Andhra Pradesh Police from 2013 to 2018. He reportedly left his post after enduring public humiliation from a senior inspector. Subsequently, he pursued the Civil Services Examination, clearing it on his fourth attempt in 2023 to join the Indian Railway Management Service. His performance improved in the fifth attempt of 2024, leading to his selection for the Indian Police Service.
Education Shift and Institutional Clarification
Reddy’s academic journey began in a Telugu-medium government school, but he transitioned to English-medium preparation for the UPSC exams. SVPNPA officials emphasized that the final decision on his continued service would be made by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which holds authority over Civil Services appointments.
