Second Chhattisgarh Migrant Worker Succumbs Following Kulgam Brick Kiln Assault
Indiadailyupdate.com – Security personnel have intensified their manhunt after a second laborer from Chhattisgarh passed away due to wounds received during a terrorist strike at a brick kiln in Kulgam district. The assault took place on Friday evening in the Kelam region of south Kashmir, with the Resistance Front—acting as a proxy for Lashkar-e-Taiba—asserting ownership of the incident.
Victims and Medical Response
Both casualties were young men in their twenties hailing from Chhattisgarh. Deepak Ratray, one of the victims, expired before medical personnel could transport him to a facility. The other victim, Bhupinder, was initially admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag for urgent treatment. His condition deteriorated, leading to his transfer to the SKIMS Hospital in Soura, where he ultimately lost his battle against the injuries.
Law enforcement agencies swiftly secured the perimeter around the attack site and initiated an extensive operation to locate the perpetrators. This incident adds to a growing pattern of targeted violence in the region. Less than ten days prior, a police officer met his end at the hands of terrorists in Anantnag town. Additionally, on February 7, 2024, two Punjabi workers named Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih were slain by a terrorist in Srinagar’s Shaheed Gunj locality.
Political Leaders Voice Condemnation
Leaders across Jammu and Kashmir have expressed strong disapproval of the attack and demanded prompt action against those responsible. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha instructed security units to ramp up operations aimed at neutralizing the culprits.

PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti characterized the violence as extraordinarily harsh in her statement on social media.
Unequivocally condemn the killing of two labourers from Chhattisgarh in Kulgam today. They work themselves to the bone far away from home only to feed their families. Unimaginably cruel to target them in such senseless acts of violence.
Apni Party head Altaf Bukhari labeled the assault as both heartbreaking and inhumane. He remarked that the attackers must be beasts for striking two innocent individuals who had traveled solely to provide for their families back home.
The People’s Conference released a statement voicing deep sorrow over the deaths. The party emphasized that the senseless targeting of ordinary citizens violates fundamental values of humanity, peace, and compassion. They offered sincere condolences to the grieving families and prayed for the injured worker’s full recovery.
Sunil Sharma, serving as Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, termed the event a cowardly and barbaric deed. He asserted that attacking innocent civilians represents an assault on all of humanity and constitutes a deliberate effort to disturb regional peace and normalcy.
Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra also denounced the violence, describing it as a cowardly maneuver driven by hidden agendas.
