Gaza health officials say 4 killed in Israeli strikes, including child

Four reported dead in Gaza as Israeli attacks continue

Indiadailyupdate.com – At least four Palestinians, including a 10-year-old girl and the son of a senior Gaza health official, were killed by Israeli fire in Gaza on Saturday, Gaza health authorities said.

The deaths came as military operations continued across the territory despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October last year. Israel has since expanded its presence further inside Gaza, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has maintained that operations against Hamas will continue until the group relinquishes all of its weapons.

Child dies after being wounded near Nuseirat

Gaza’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority, said the girl died after suffering injuries from Israeli army fire north of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.

The child “succumbed to wounds sustained this morning from Israeli army fire north of the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip”.

Nuseirat has become one of several areas in central Gaza where displaced families have sought shelter during the war. The territory’s population has repeatedly been forced to move amid fighting, air strikes and evacuation orders, placing further pressure on already limited medical and humanitarian services.

Health ministry official’s son killed in Jabalia

Another Israeli air strike killed Baseer al-Barsh in an encampment housing displaced people in Jabalia, northern Gaza, the health ministry said. He was the son of Munir al-Barsh, the director-general of Gaza’s health ministry.

Speaking at his son’s funeral, Munir Al-Bursh described the death as part of an ongoing pattern of violence.

The killing was “a continuation of crimes”.

Jabalia, in the north of the Gaza Strip, has experienced repeated Israeli military operations during the conflict. Encampments for people displaced by the fighting have become a central feature of daily life across Gaza, where large parts of the territory have been devastated.

Further casualties near Gaza City

Two more Palestinians were killed in separate strikes near Gaza City, while several others were injured, Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital and the territory’s civil defence rescue agency said. The civil defence agency also operates under Hamas authority.

The latest deaths add to the toll recorded since the ceasefire announcement. Gaza’s health ministry says Israeli strikes have killed more than 1,300 people during that period. The Israeli military has recorded five deaths among its personnel over the same timeframe, along with the death of one civilian contractor.

War continues after ceasefire deal

The conflict followed the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. An AFP tally using official Israeli figures puts the number of people killed in that attack at 1,221. Militants also took about 251 hostages into Gaza, with 44 of them already dead.

Israel launched a major offensive in Gaza in response. Gaza’s health ministry says more than 73,800 people have been killed in the territory, most of which has been left in ruins by the war. The United Nations has generally treated the ministry’s casualty figures as reliable.

The October ceasefire was brokered by the United States, but it has not brought a full halt to Israeli operations in Gaza. Netanyahu has said there will be no withdrawal from the territory and no end to strikes aimed at Hamas until the group disarms.

Saturday’s reported fatalities underscore the continuing danger facing civilians in Gaza, including children and people sheltering in displacement camps. With fighting still affecting northern, central and urban areas of the territory, hospitals and emergency responders remain central to documenting casualties and treating those injured.
