Mitch McConnell Returns to Senate After Extended Recovery From Fall

Health questions intensified during Senate absence

McConnell’s condition became a significant public issue, particularly because of the limited information released in the early weeks after his fall.

Concern grew to the point that Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear issued a public letter urging McConnell to provide a transparent update about his health. McConnell contracted polio as a young child and has long spoken openly about its lasting physical effects, including difficulty walking and climbing stairs.
