In Poll-Bound Punjab, Modi Emphasizes Central Government’s Developmental Role

During a public address in Jalandhar on Friday, Modi highlighted the government’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and drive economic progress, positioning these achievements as a cornerstone of his political message. While the BJP does not currently hold power in Punjab, Modi stressed that the Central government has consistently prioritized the region’s growth, allocating significant resources over the past decade to ensure tangible progress.
Modi’s Sharp Criticism of AAP: A ‘Hardcore Dishonest Party’
Modi’s speech was marked by a pointed critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which he labeled as a ‘hardcore dishonest party’ during his remarks. He argued that the party’s governance model has failed to deliver transparent and accountable leadership, undermining public trust. “In poll bound Punjab Modi, the people are demanding real results, not empty promises,” he stated, accusing AAP of misusing funds and lacking the dedication required for meaningful development. The Prime Minister’s comments were a clear attempt to frame the AAP as a political entity that prioritizes rhetoric over action.
“Serving the public demands honest intentions and a spirit of integrity. However, the party currently in power in Punjab possesses neither. It is known as a ‘hardcore dishonest party’.”
Modi’s campaign in Punjab is also centered on showcasing specific infrastructure milestones, such as the launch of the Amritsar-Kashi rail service and the inauguration of the Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli railway line. These projects, he emphasized, are part of the Central government’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activity. The Ludhiana bypass and segments of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway were also highlighted, reinforcing the narrative that the Centre remains committed to Punjab’s development even in the absence of BJP rule.
Modi’s speech included a call to action for voters, urging them to support the Central government’s vision for Punjab. He praised the “Nagarik Devo Bhava” (people are the prime deity) philosophy, which he claimed has guided policies to improve citizens’ quality of life. The Prime Minister also pointed to the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which has modernized over 1,300 railway stations nationwide, with 75 of them inaugurated in Punjab on the same day. This emphasis on infrastructure underscores his belief that development is a continuous process, not limited to any single political party.
“When you visit the Jalandhar Cantt station, you will realize our country is truly moving toward becoming a developed nation… The Jalandhar Cantt station has been modernized, and its capacity has increased significantly. Similarly, the stations at Anandpur Sahib, Muktsar, and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar have also transformed.”
As part of his campaign, Modi also paid tribute to Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, commemorating the centenary of his martyrdom. This gesture was intended to appeal to Punjab’s historical and cultural sentiments, aligning the Prime Minister’s message with the state’s legacy of leadership. Earlier in the day, he had unveiled several development projects in Chandigarh, valued at over Rs 4,700 crore, following the launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. These initiatives reflect Modi’s strategy of linking regional progress to national achievements, reinforcing the narrative that the Centre’s policies benefit all of India.
