The announcement was made by the party’s state president, Manoj Bharti, following a core committee meeting. This marks a strategic shift for Kishor, who previously launched his party and participated in the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections without securing any seats.
A New Opportunity in a BJP Stronghold
The Bankipur assembly constituency, a well-established BJP stronghold, is set to become the focus of this by-election. Nitin Nabin, the BJP president, vacated the seat after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. The party had previously fielded Veena Manvi, a social activist, as its candidate for the seat. However, the BJP has yet to formally announce its own contender, with Ajay Alok, Neel Ratan Ghosh, and Ajeet Kumar Lali reportedly under consideration.
Despite Kishor’s high-profile padyatra and campaign pledges, including structural reforms and ending caste-based politics, the JSP faced a near-total defeat in the 2025 assembly elections. The party’s inability to convert its momentum into results left it with zero seats, as the Nitish Kumar-led NDA dominated the polls, winning 202 seats with a landslide victory.
